7pm: Lateral Thought Gallery opens

With photography and texts, artists Monika Ohri, Sarah Coughtry, and Jessica Hosman, address topics that span the globe, like womens’ rights in Africa, the controversial tradition of bullfighting in Spain, and Freedom Fighters in India.

8pm: Nice Bombs film screening

Filmmaker Usama Alshaibi returns to Baghdad to reunite with his family after nearly 24 years. With humor and resilience the film explores Usama’s dual role as both Iraqi and American. Winner of Best Documentary at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. [link]

9:30–11pm: Live music with Trip Fisk

Trip Fisk abducts its inspiration from classic jazz recordings and contemporary grooves to concoct a unique blend of improvisation, modern melody, and adept rhythmic artistry. [link]
